Please see your letter of the 27th April,/18315/1922, regarding the appointment of a Head Attendant for the
Hong Kong Lunatic Asylum.
It appears to us from paragraph 4 of the enclosure to your letter that the man is not to be engaged upon an ordinary service agreement but should be given the alternative of finding collateral security for refund of the cost of his passage money, or should sign a passage agreement. (This is what is done in the case of nurses engaged for Eastern Colonies). Do you agree to this please? If so we shall
in due course recommend a man to you and you will presumably furnish him with a letter of appointment.
Alec if we select a married man for the post,
shall we be correct in promising the usual passage provision for wife and family?
On receiving your reply to this minute we propose
to advertise the vacancy.
